The ancient Cistercian monastery is supposed to be one of the best preserved monasteries of the middle age. Since its founding in 1183/84, the monastery survived its changeful history almost undamaged. The abolition of the convent due to the reformation followed the establishment of a convent school and finally the use of the complex as a royal hunting lodge.
The choir of the minster, the late romanic brothers work hall, dormitory and gotic summer refectory are impressive stations on the circuit through the monastery. Bebenhausen itself is a heritage listed district fo Tübingen, ca. 4 kms from the city centre
